2016 Honda Vezel Review
Introduced by Honda for the manufacturing year 2014, the Honda Vezel took the global market by storm. It gained popularity almost instantaneously and has become one of the best-selling. crossovers worldwide, Kenya included.
The Vezel is Honda’s competitor to cars such as the Mitsubishi RVR, Nissan Juke, Toyota Rush, and Mazda CX-3.
Engine, transmission, and performance
Powered by a 1500 cc engine, this crossover is just adequate. With an output of 118 horsepower and 145 NM of torque, the Vezel is within the range of its competitors.] The Vezel has a CVT gearbox designed to resemble a 7-speed transmission. This gearbox provides for smooth power delivery and makes city driving a breeze.
Fuel consumption figures of between 18 to 22 kilometers per liter put this urban crossover as one of the most efficient cars one can own. This is undoubtedly one of the major reasons why the car has gained popularity so fast.
It is however not all rosy as the Vezel’s strengths lie mainly in the urban sector. Being front-wheel drive, a slippery rough road could quickly remind you that this car is a crossover and not an SUV. At full capacity on strenuous journeys, the engine can also begin to feel a bit tired and stressed. This car is best enjoyed in the city.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Honda Vezel simply knocks it out of the park in this category. I can’t name one other nonpremium brand offering a crossover with Alcantara interior. The cabin of this car is well thought out and elegant. Honda has chosen the best of materials for this car. The infotainment screen is slightly tilted toward the driver giving it a wrap around cockpit feel.
The multifunctional steering wheel has well placed buttons to control both the infotainment options and the car information. As standard this car comes with cruise control as can be seen on the steering wheel.
The car has air conditioning with rear AC vents coming in as standard to keep even the back passengers cool on hot days. Being a 5 seater on a crossover chassis, the Vezel doesn’t have the best rear leg and headroom. Taller and larger passengers may feel cramped if sat 3 abreast at the back. The front row is however adequately spacious and with powered seats, no passenger will feel squeezed here.
The trunk of the Vezel has 460 liters of space in this trim. This is more than enough to carry you and your family’s luggage for those all-important trips out of town.
Infotainment and Connectivity
This is where the Vezel falls short in my opinion. The infotainment system is basic with no premium features. Even though it is a small car, did it have to have only 4 speakers? Android Auto and Apple car play are not available in any trim in this vehicle.
However, it is not only bad news as there is Bluetooth, USB, and Aux connectivity. The Vezel also comes with wireless charging which is quite handy.
Conclusion
The 2016 Honda Vezel excels in some areas and falls short in others. This is a great car for anyone who is conscious about fuel consumption, has a small family, and spends most of their time in the city.
It goes without saying that its pricepoint one could jump a class and get the same model year Nissan X-trail which is significantly more car. That is personally what I would do.
Despite this, the car has its audience and a huge following for valid reasons. If this is what your heart desires, you shall not regret getting it. In fact, check out the various listings for this car we have on garisea.com.
